VERY CHOICE LUSTROUS SURFACES. TIED FOR HIGHEST GRADED AT PCGS. The 1876-CC rivals the 1875-CC as the most plentiful Type II Double Eagle struck in the Carson City Mint. In trerms of total number of coins known, the '76-CC is actually the most common CC-mint Twenty irrespctive of type. In high grades (AU and Mint State), however, both the 1875-CC and the 1890-CC have greater surviving populations than the 1876-CC. This issue shares the same conditionally challenging characteristic as all other Type II Double Eagles, and in this particular case the rarest coins can be found above the MS-62 grade level.
