Description
SATIN LUSTER WITH WELL STRUCK SURFACES QUALIFIES THIS COIN AS A CONDITION CENSUS SPECIMEN. LESS THAN A HANDFUL GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. CAC. A scarce issue in all grades, the 1854 was produced to the extent of just 54,250 pieces. Survivors are equally as elusive as those of the 1842-O, 1848 and 1851, and they are typically offered no finer than Extremely Fine. While patience will be rewarded with the occasional AU, neither time nor money are necessarily sufficient to procure a Mint State 1854 Eagle. Such high-grade rarities are few and far between, and most are concentrated in tightly held collections.
