VERY CHOICE, WELL STRUCK SURFACES WITH A CLEAR OVERDATE. VERY SCARCE IN MINT STATE. JUST A SINGLE MS62 GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. CAC. This is a very rare overdate that shows plain traces of the middle stroke of a 2 within the 3. The original mintage of this vareity is unknown, being included in the 201,253 pieces reported for the normal-date 1853. Most survivors of the overdate are circulated to one degree or another, and the major grading services report just two Mint State examples as of October, 2006.
