Description
CHOICE LIGHT AMBER TONED SURFACES. VERY SCARCE CARSON CITY DOLLAR. HIGHEST GRADED IS A SINGLE MS64. A historically significant and, thus, extremely popular issue, the 1870-CC is the first Carson City Mint delivery in the United States Silver Dollar series. It is also one of just four CC-mint Seated Dollars and, despite a limited original mintage of 11,758 pieces, the 1870-CC is more plentiful in today's market than the 1871-CC, 1872-CC and 1873-CC. This is not to imply that the '70-CC is a common coin, for it is actually very scarce in circulated grades and rare in Mint State. Due to its first-year status, the 1870-CC was saved in fairly significant numbers. Most coins set aside by the contemporary public, however, had already acquired some degree of wear. Very, very few Mint State coins survived through any means, and those that did enjoy strong demand among Silver Dollar and Carson City Mint specialists alike.
