Description
SUBDUED UNTONED SURFACES. ONLY ONE COIN GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. Along with the 1871, the 1872 is the most plentiful issue in the Motto portion of the Seated Dollar series. This is good news for type collectors, as circulated and Mint State coins through MS-62 should prove relatively obtainable in the market. The 1872 is conditionally scarce in MS-63 and MS-64, however, while coins that grade MS-65 or finer are very rare. While many 1872 Seated Dollars were exported, a sizeable percentage of the original mintage remained stateside and entered circulation after 1873 when the coins' face value increased above their bullion value.
