Description
CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED SPECIMEN THAT IS WELL STRUCK WITH LUSTER STILL EVIDENT. SECOND YEAR FOR EAGLES TO BE MADE IN CARSON CITY. LESS THAN 100 COINS BELIEVED TO EXIST TODAY IN ALL GRADES. JUST FOUR COINS GRADED HIGHER. This year represents only the second during which the Carson City Mint struck Ten-Dollar gold pieces. The original mintage of the '71-CC is only 8,085 pieces, and it is unlikely that more than 90-100 coins have survived. When offered at all, this issue is apt to grade Fine or VF, and even EF representatives are scarce. In AU, the 1871-CC is nothing short of rare, and Mint State coins are believed to number only one or two pieces. In terms of both absolute and condition rarity, the 1871-CC ranks ninth out of the 19 Carson City Mint deliveries in the Liberty Eagle series. It is more challenging to locate than 1874-CC, 1881-CC, 1882-CC, 1883-CC and 1884-CC.
