Description
WARM SATIN LUSTROUS SURFACES. VERY SCARCE NEW ORLEANS $20 IN MINT STATE. JUST A FEW MS62 COINS GRADED HIGHER. After producing a record total (for the facility) of 315,000 pieces in 1851, the New Orleans Mint delivered just 190,000 Double Eagles the following year. Nevertheless, the 1852-O is among the more frequently encountered Twenty-Dollar gold pieces from this branch mint, and it is relatively easy to obtain in lower grades. Beginning at the AU-55 level, however, survivors are scarce-to-rare from a condition standpoint.
