Description
CHOICE, NEAR MINT SURFACES. ONLY SEVEN COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. THE HIGHEST GRADE ACHIEVED WAS A MS62. CAC. The 1872-CC is much more obtainable than either the 1870-CC or 1871-CC, and it is also less rare than the 1878-CC, 1879-CC and 1891-CC. One must not forget, however, that the '72-CC is still a very elusuive coin when viewed in the wider context of U.S. numismatics. No more than 400 examples are believed extant from an original mintage of 26,000 pieces, most of which grade no finer than EF-45. The Mint State population of this issue probably numbers fewer than 10 coins.
