An extremely popular coin with gold specialists, the 1905 Double Eagle has a business strike mintage of just 58,919 pieces. With the sole exception of the 1902, this is the rarest 20th issue in the Liberty Double Eagle series. Typically grading no finer than MS-61, the 1905 is scarce even in MS-62. This P-mint issue is rarer in high grades than such earlier-dated Type III Double Eagles as the 1882-S and 1887-S.
