This popular and easily attributed variety was caused when the engraver accidentally sank the S mintmark sideways into the die. The underlying "S" is horizontally oriented and can be clearly seen in this example. Creamy champagne surfaces are overlayed with a soft grey-gold patina. Bold details are easily appreciable.
