Description
GEM SATIN LUSTROUS SURFACES. ONLY THREE MS65+ COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. The 1925-S is not among the more frequently encountered Peace Dollars in today's market. An original minatge of 1.6 million pieces is limited by 20th century standards, particularly for a Silver Dollar. Even more importantly, very few bags of Mint State 1925-S have entered the market over the years. Apparently, most of the Mint State coins that have survived have either come down to us individually or trace their pedigree to Redfield hoard that was broken up in 1976. The typical 1925-S Peace Dollar is flatly struck over the central highpoints. This characteristic certainly limits the eye appeal of many coins, and it also precludes many otherwise attractive examples from grading higher than MS-64. As a result, the '25-S is one of the most challenging Peace Dollars to locate as a Gem.
