The 1857-S $20 is the single most available Type One Double Eagle and is perennially popular as such. A mintage of 970,500 anchors the issue and provides availability for collectors today. This is a popular shipwreck date as the S.S. Central America was carrying a majority of this date (over 5,000 were recovered).
