Even with a value of half of a cent, these coins were much larger than our modern pennies! At the time, a half cent coin was enough to purchase many essentials. This denomination was also useful for making change for the Spanish-American Silver Real coins, which had a value of 12 1/2 cents. The US Government only banned using foreign money as legal tender in 1857, so the half cent denomination was well-used until then. This pure copper coin is a real treat for any collection! It's difficult to find nice collector coins like this in large quantities, so it has taken us a while to gather enough of these to offer them for this deal!
