The U.S. Mint wouldn't start marketing proof coins to the public until 1858, which is around the time where coin collecting starting booming in the United States. Proof coins prior to 1858 are very rare, and the 1840 Proof Seated Dollar is certainly no exception. The piece we offer here is lightly toned with nice mirrors.
