The Philadelphia Mint abandoned the Liberty Cap design in favor of Robert Scot's Draped Bust motif for the large Cent during July of 1796. This series would continue through 1807. The Draped Bust Cent is one of the most popular types among all early U.S. Copper, and it continues to fascinate both specialists and more casual numismatists with its plethora of distinct die varieties.
