Regarding Proof & Mint Set Packaging
"We are selling coins, not packaging."
Condition: All outer boxes/envelopes are in "used" condition and will show evidence of handling and wear. None of these paper-thin wrapper imperfections affect the coins inside.
No Cherry-Picking: We do not favor one buyer over another by selecting "perfect" wrappers. If you require mint-fresh paper coverings, we cannot service your order.
The Hard Plastic Cases: These are subject to small stress fractures from the original minting process or natural aging.
Condition, Toning & Oxidation
A Note from the 1956 Mint Superintendent (Mrs. Rae V. Biester):
"Sooner or later your Proof Coins may show evidence of oxidation (tarnish or discoloration)... we cannot assume responsibility for oxidation. Please do not ask us to make exchanges or adjustments."
Our Position: If the Mint Superintendent issued this warning in 1956, imagine the natural toning that occurs over 60+ years. Metal interacts with air and light from the moment it is struck. We do not expect these coins to look as they did the day they were born, and we hope you don't either. The picture is the grade.
Grading & Authenticity
Authenticity: All coins are guaranteed genuine for life.
Grading is Opinion: We place zero value on third-party grading opinions (slabs) except for verification of authenticity.
The Picture is the Grade: We spend thousands of dollars weekly on high-resolution photography. The picture of the coin IS the grade. Please use the enlargement tool to make your own assessment.
Our Technical Terminology:
High Grade: Top 20% of the surviving population.
Better Grade: Top 50% of the surviving population.
The Reality of "Cleaned" Coins
"Cleaning is always a matter of degree."
In our 55+ years, we have found that almost every coin not in a sealed mint holder has been "cleaned" in some way—whether by a soft cloth, a pocket, or professional conservation.
Our View: We buy and sell coins; we leave "conserving" to the experts.
Honesty: If you ask us if a coin has been cleaned, we will give you our honest opinion on its visibility and its likelihood of passing a third-party grading service.
Returns & Refunds
Policy: We offer a 30-day unconditional return policy with no restocking fee.
Due Diligence: Please examine photos closely and ask questions before paying to avoid unnecessary returns.
Cost: The buyer pays for transportation costs unless there is a material mistake in the provided picture.
"Dumb questions are better than stupid mistakes." (Note: We do charge for marital counseling!)
