A scarce and extremely popular first year of issue Flowing Hair half dollar from a low mintage of 23,464 pieces. A moderately underappreciated date as most type collectors settle for the much more common 1795. This attractive dove grey example features lovely detail for the grade and completely unmarred surfaces. Light tan tones grace the high points due to moderate circulation while the fields shimmer with light blue hues. A few planchet striations, retained slag, and die cracks are present, however, they are not distracting and are as minted. Most remaining examples of the date are damaged or low grades making this pleasing VF a fantastic opportunity. Although not noted on the holder this is an example of the Overton 101 variety and is a mid to late-die state based on the severity of the die cracks on the reverse. - Flowing Hair Half Dollar
