1922 Peace $1 PCGS MS66 SOLE FINEST 1978 Camp David Peace Summit MW Counterstamp

This stunning piece commemorates the 1978 Camp David Accords – a peace treaty negotiated and signed by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin. At the time, famed numismatist Mel Wacks was inspired to celebrate by counterstamping 1922 and 1923 Peace Dollars, minted by the U.S. to celebrate the 1918 Treaty of Versailles that ended World War I. Wacks teamed up with engraver Adam Cool and together they released 1,000 authorized pieces which sold in a flurry. This is the finest known of that small group.
