1937-D 50C Walking Liberty Half Dollar PCGS MS67
1937-D 50C Walking Liberty Half Dollar PCGS MS67
1937-D 50C
SKU: 46197234
A conditionally scarce Denver Walker in exceptional Superb Gem preservation, this 1937-D Walking Liberty Half Dollar graded PCGS MS67 offers the combination of strong eye appeal, popular type status, and advanced-grade scarcity that consistently attracts serious collector attention.
Adolph A. Weinman’s celebrated obverse depicts Liberty striding toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and extending her hand in a gesture of hope, while branches of laurel and oak symbolize civil and military glory. The inscriptions LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and the date 1937 complete the design. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands on a mountain crag beside a sprig of mountain pine, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and HALF DOLLAR surrounding. The Denver mintmark appears at lower left on the reverse.
The present coin displays the sharply defined, well-struck character often associated with the issue. Soft silver-white luster flows readily across both sides, accented by warm champagne-gold and light russet peripheral toning that enhances the originality of the piece. The surfaces are notably clean for the assigned grade, with only the most trivial abrasions visible under close inspection. Liberty’s gown lines, the sun’s rays, and the eagle’s feather detail remain impressively crisp, and the overall presentation is that of a carefully preserved, highly attractive Superb Gem.
Within the Walking Liberty half dollar series, the 1937-D occupies a desirable middle ground: more elusive than the 1936-D and considerably scarcer than the 1939-D in upper Mint State grades, though not as challenging as the 1938-D, while the 1934-D and 1935-D remain distinctly rarer among the Denver issues. With a mintage of 1,676,000 pieces, it is not a low-mintage issue in an absolute sense, but truly choice and superb survivors are a different matter. The issue is generally seen with decent strikes and frosty luster, qualities that are well represented here.
Certified PCGS MS67, this example stands among a limited population of just 98 pieces at the grade level, with only 27 finer at PCGS. That places it firmly in the upper echelon of surviving 1937-D halves and underscores its importance for collectors pursuing a high-grade Walking Liberty set or a top-quality type collection. The Walking Liberty half dollar remains one of the most beloved series in all of American numismatics, admired equally for its artistry, historic Depression-era context, and enduring market strength.
A beautifully preserved and highly collectible Denver Mint Walking Liberty half, this MS67 example represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a scarce upper-grade classic with outstanding originality and visual appeal.
