Description

Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item:

From the Furnace Run Fugio Cent Collection, 106 coins, 53 different varieties! Offered by Shawn A. Yancey from Earlycoppercoins: 1787 N19-Z Fugio Cent PCGS AU53 Raised Rims Reverse W6975 R4. From the Stacks Bowers sale of the Ted L. Craige Collection, sold on 01/22/13 as lot #11614 and described as: “High Grade Newman 19-Z Raised Rims Reverse. The 1914 Parsons Coin. 1787 Fugio Copper. Pointed Rays. Newman 19-Z, W-6975. Rarity-5. STATES UNITED, Label with Raised Rims. AU-50 (PCGS). 152.78 grains. Lovely glossy medium brown with some light reverse woodgraining. An exceptional specimen of this distinctive and scarce variety, a strong candidate for the Condition Census. Some trivial planchet chips are visible in the obverse fields, very minor natural planchet granularity at right reverse periphery, no significant planchet flaws or post-striking defects. Exceptionally well struck from centers to peripheries on both sides. A tiny rim clip right of 12 o'clock is hidden by the slab prongs. A couple of choice AU examples are known, while Ford's beautiful example appears to be the only real Unc. That piece brought $20,700 in 2003. This example is finer than any example offered in recent memory. It has now been off the market for 99 years. Last time it sold, it hammered for $3. PCGS# 895. Provenance: From the Ted L. Craige Collection. Paper envelope with attribution notation included. Earlier, from Henry Chapman's sale of the Hon. George M. Parsons Collection, June 1914, lot 1754. The original Chapman envelope accompanies this lot.” The coin sold for $7,637.50 in that 2013 auction, and unfortunately, the Chapman envelope has disappeared. The details are sharper and the color is less red in person than in my photos: This is certainly a PLUS example, one that I would be proud to put into my own collection. Purchased from Coin Rarities Online in 2024. PCGS certification# 895.50/26439099.
