Description
CAC. A remarkable survivor from the lowest-mintage matte proof Buffalo nickel issue, with only 600 pieces struck in 1916. Finely textured satin surfaces display the distinctive granular finish characteristic of these early matte proofs, producing a soft, even glow rather than mirrored reflectivity. Sharply struck throughout, with exceptional detail evident in the obverse braid and feather detail as well as the bison’s rugged coat and horn. Beautifully preserved and highly original, this superb example represents an extraordinary offering of this under appreciated rarity.
