Gem AU (13: 4,5,4). One of the top examples of this a prized variety. I rank it within the top 10 examples. This example has very few marks and a wonderful original surface. The only distinctive mark is on the Y in LIBERTY. It is better than at least one of the AU58's graded in the census. This example is well struck but shows the typical strike-through on the 8th feather, along with a slight depression at the tip of this feather - by the R in AMERICA. Many examples show this feature. The first three feathers are very strong, although not full. There is no other strike-though issues on this example. The date is full. There are very few marks and I think this should have graded as AU58 and I rank it among those graded at that level.
This variety is quite rare and examples such as this one generate big excitement among collectors when they come onto the market. Auction prices of similar quality examples are in the same price range we are asking here. Examples that have sold for less have issues that explain the reason for the price. There is no issue with this example.
