<p>Choice VF (12: 4,4,4). An attractive example which is just short of an XF grade. This is the original striking which were struck prior to passage of the Mint Act of 1857. These are techically patterns. They were distributed to Congress in late 1856 and from there they were placed in circulation. The later restrike issues (proof) were sold to the public at a later time. The Snow-3 die pairing are associated with this original distribution. It is identified by the repunched 5 and no centering dot under the left serif of the N in CENT - Proof restrikes have this centering dot. </p>
