Description
The mintage for the 1803 gold Eagle was a mere 15,017 coins, of which 8,979 pieces are the Small Reverse Stars variety. A well-executed strike is on full display on the portrait and eagle, with only minor weakness on the peripheral stars. No adjustment marks or heavy bag marks detract, and a wonderfully rich reddish-gold color bathes both sides of this beauty, enhancing the strength of the mint luster. Enough cannot be said about the eye appeal. While not a perfect coin by any stretch of the imagination, it is impossible to imagine anyone being displeased with this select, important early issue! PCGS has only graded six finer while NGC has only encapsulated three higher examples. A pleasing registry set addition! - Draped Bust $10
