1930 10C Mercury Dime PCGS MS67FB
1930 10C, FB
SKU: 57546485
A superbly preserved Full Bands 1930 Mercury Dime, certified PCGS MS67FB and ranking among the elite survivors of this ever-popular silver type.
The obverse presents Adolph A. Weinman’s celebrated portrait of Liberty facing left, wearing the winged Phrygian cap symbolic of freedom of thought, with LIBERTY around the upper periphery, IN GOD WE TRUST at lower left, and the date 1930 below. A small “W” monogram appears to the right of the truncation. The reverse displays the central fasces, emblematic of unity and strength, entwined with an olive branch signifying peace, surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME, with E PLURIBUS UNUM at right. Struck at Philadelphia, this issue bears no mintmark, as expected for the mint.
At the lofty MS67FB level, the coin offers exceptional technical quality and visual appeal. Brilliant silver-white surfaces are enlivened by soft golden peripheral tint, while satiny mint luster remains full and vibrant across both sides. The strike is notably sharp for the issue, most importantly confirmed by the coveted Full Bands designation, with strong separation visible on the horizontal bands of the fasces. Preservation is outstanding, with only the most inconsequential marks limiting an otherwise near-gem presentation. The fields and devices are crisp, and the overall appearance is fresh, original, and highly attractive.
The Mercury dime series, issued from 1916 through 1945, remains one of the most beloved in all of American numismatics, admired for Weinman’s masterful artistry and the set-building challenge it presents in high grade. Although the 1930 Philadelphia dime is not a key date, it is a better condition rarity in premium Mint State, especially with fully defined reverse bands. Collectors pursuing top-tier registry sets consistently place strong demand on coins that combine superior preservation with the strike characteristics necessary for the FB designation.
With a mintage of 6,770,000 pieces, the date is available in circulated and lower Mint State grades, but genuinely elite examples are far scarcer than the production figure might suggest. PCGS reports a population of just 38 pieces in MS67FB, with only 12 finer, underscoring the coin’s scarcity at this certified level. That combination of condition census standing, Full Bands sharpness, and strong eye appeal makes this piece especially desirable for advanced Mercury dime specialists and high-end type collectors alike.
A beautifully struck and remarkably well-preserved 1930 Mercury Dime, this PCGS MS67FB example represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire a conditionally scarce classic in one of the most collected series of 20th-century United States coinage.
