Welcome to Earlycoppercoins! I am the owner, Shawn A. Yancey, and I am a member of ANA and Early American Coppers, EAC #4647. I am pleased to offer the following item:
Offered by Shawn A. Yancey from Earlycoppercoins: 1794 S-58 Liberty Cap Large Cent, Head of 1794, R3. Authenticated and graded as PCGS Fine Details 10% off-center. Actually a very attractive coin, and frankly I am surprised that PCGS did not straight-grade this coin. The color and eye appeal are very nice, but there is just a touch of minor roughness. That roughness is even LESS than what my photos suggest. Bottom line is that the coin is pretty darn nice and much better in hand. Best of all, this is a RARE off-center mint error, and thankfully, it is struck toward K12 such that the date remains fully on the planchet. The closest comp I could find is the Mervis S-67, which sold on 01/10/14 as NGC F12 for $19,975. That coin also showed minor roughness but good eye appeal, just like the current example. I believe this is the ONLY 1794 off-center large cent that I have offered in 30+ years in business! Recorded in the Noyes/Lusk Numistudy as #57046 and VG7 net G5 Average. PCGS certification# E901374.97/56073478. Purchased from CVM at EAC 2026 Charlotte on 05/02/26.
