Description
1901 Morgan Silver Dollar, graded PCGS MS63, housed in its original PCGS Generation 1.2 green label Rattler holder. Certification number 07272.63/7326455, verifiable on the PCGS website.
The 1901 Philadelphia issue is one of the most recognized condition rarities in the entire Morgan dollar series, common in circulated grades but genuinely rare in Mint State.
Based on a thorough search of Heritage Auctions, Stack's Bowers, GreatCollections, eBay, and the PCGS Collectors Universe forums, this coin has never appeared at public auction or been documented in any public listing in a rattler holder. This coin may very well be one of very few, if any, that exist in rattler holders.
According to the PCGS census at the close of the rattler era: 15 in MS63, 3 in MS64, 1 in MS65, none higher. The vast majority have long since been resubmitted to modern holders.
In our opinion this coin faces up to a significantly higher graded example.
Recent auction results for this date in modern holders: MS63+: $26,400 (November 2025) MS64: $48,000 (August 2024) MS65: $288,000 (November 2020) MS66: $720,000 (August 2025)
Priced accordingly. Best offer considered.
