Description
As silver coins became hoarded and replaced in commerce with fractional currency, Philadelphia mintages of Seated Quarters dropped annually between 1861 and 1865. 1863 saw a mintage of just 191,600 pieces, compared to the 4,853,600 quarters struck in 1861. Even with its reduced mintage, the 1863 is not a particularly rare coin however the high-end offered here is among the very finest - PGCS reports just three finer! Vibrant and sharply struck, both beautifully preserved sides feature an enchanting blend of violet, rose, and blue-green tones. Fully original and sure to please! - Liberty Seated Quarter
