Description
This is an extremely rare coin exhibiting several minting errors. The most pronounced of these errors are the multiple Mint Marks stamped on top of each other just under the date. You can see that the mint was finally able to position the Denver mint mark 'D' in its correct orientation, and location. However, you will also notice the mint mark just under the top 'D' stamp is at a nearly 90' off. And then finally, the third stamped mint mark that appears beneath the previous two seems to be an 'S' mint mark and is also severely leaning to the right at nearly 45'.
Another mint strike error is just above the letter 'T' in TRUST on the Obverse of the coin. To me it looks a lot like a halo. In addition, there is some doubling on the '8' and the '3' of the date, as well as a die break just below Lincoln's bowtie.
Lastly, on the Reverse, the Lincoln Memorial has several large crater scars along the roof line.
This coin was submitted to PCGS for grading. However, as is their policy that if a coin appears to have been cleaned they will simply say the coin is genuine, and not gradable. They did however identify it as being in AU Detail.
