1879 Pattern Morgan Half Dollar Judd-1599 PCGS PR-62

High R-6. The ‘Miniature Morgan” with George T. Morgan’s dollar design used on the obverse, paired with a perched Eagle on the reverse. The peripheral inscription E PLURIBUS UNUM and the accompanied stars differ in placement from the Morgan dollar obverse. IN GOD WE TRUST is widely spaced below, along with the denomination and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA on the reverse. Struck in silver with a reeded edge. The centers are softly struck, as is characteristic of this pattern issue. The surfaces are silver-white with frosted design features and deep mirrored fields. Housed in an old green label holder before PCGS started designating coins as Cameo. Approximately 12-15 pieces are believed known in silver and also in copper of this design.
