FLASHY LUSTROUS SURFACES. JUST 9 COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS, The 1911 (915,000 pieces struck) is one of the more readily obtainable issues in the Indian Half Eagle series. As with the type as a whole, however, the 1911 is conditionally challenging and seldom offered finer than MS-63. Near-Gems are very scarce, Gems in MS-65 are rare and MS-66s are virtually unknown. There are no Superb Gems listed at either PCGS or NGC (January/2008). Despite its popularity as a type coin, the 1911 is not the most common Indian Half Eagle. In an absolute sense, the 1911 is rarer than the 1909-D, 1912 and 1913. In high grades (MS-65 and finer), this issue is also rarer than the 1908-S and 1909, if it is not quite as difficult to locate as the 1912 at those levels.
