A sizeable mintage of 11.1 million pieces explains why the 1882 is one of the more readily obtainable Morgan Dollars in today's market. It also explains why strike varies considerably among Mint State survivors. Most examples are actually quite well detailed, but a few are softly impressed over the central highpoints due to having been struck from worn dies. Cherrypicking for both strike and surface preservation is definitely advised when pursuing this issue.
