Description
GEM SATIN SURFACES. TIED FOR HIGHEST GRADED AT PCGS. The 1843-P was produced in greater numbers (611,205 pieces) than any other Liberty Half Eagle delivered up until that time. It is, perhaps not surprisingly, one of the most frequently encountered Half Eagles from the 1840s. Circulated examples turn up quite often, and they are popular among early-date type collectors. One must not forget, however, that the 1843 is much scarcer in Mint State than a "generic" Liberty Half Eagle from the 1880s, 1890s or 1900s. In fact, only 50-75 coins are believed extant in all Mint State grades, and most are confined to the various levels of BU.
