The Philadelphia Mint required eight obverse and nine reverse dies to strike an estimated 1,039,075 Half Dollars bearing the 1814 date. The rarest of the nine reported die marriages is Overton-106. This year marks the first in the Capped Bust Half series in which a small star appears between the words DOLLAR and FIFTY in the edge lettering.
