Description
WELL STRUCK EXAMPLE OF THIS VERY SCARCE DAHLONEGA RARITY. LESS THAN 90 EXAMPLES BELIEVED TO EXIST TODAY IN ALL GRADES. With an original mintage of just 1,760 pieces, the 1854-D is an understandably rare coin in all grades. Survivors number just 65-75 coins (per Doug Winter, 2003), most of which grade only VF or EF. In high grades (AU and Mint State), the 1854-D is the sixth rarest of the 20 Quarter Eagle deliveries struck in the Dahlonega Mint. It is rarer than such other issues as the 1849-D, 1850-D, 1851-D, 1852-D and 1853-D.
