WELL STRUCK WITH LUSTROUS SURFACES. ONLY 2,244 STRUCK. THE HIGHEST GRADED IS MS62. Dahlonega Mint Quarter Eagle production faded into history in 1859 with a delivery of just 2,244 pieces. Today, no more than 140 of these coins are believed extant, the prevalent grade among these being somewhere in the EF through low-end AU range. At higher levels of preservation, the 1859-D is very rare and more elusive than the 1839-D, 1843-D, 1844-D, 1846-D, 1847-D, 1848-D and 1857-D.
