It was laterdetermined that the men had travelled to London where they purchased $35,000worth of diamond refuse, which they simply sprinkled around their Wyomingproperty before bringing the proposed investor’s prospectors. When the prospectorsshared their findings with the investors, which included Tiffany & Co. andBaron von Rothschild, a deal was quickly struck. News of the field even spurreda short-lived diamond prospecting craze in the US. This 1872 gold dollar remembersan event known to history as the Great Diamond Hoax. <o:p></o:p>
