Description
WELL STRUCK SATIN WHITE LUSTROUS SURFACES. VIRTUALLY MARKFREE. WAYNE MILLER PEDIGREE. An important key-date issue, the 1884-S is one of the most challenging Morgan Dollars to locate in Mint State. This may come as a surprise when one considers that the '84-S is readily obtainable in worn grades. Apparently, large numbers of examples entered circulation at or around the time of striking. Mint State survivors, on the other hand, have always been in limited supply. Such pieces appear to have entered the numismatic market in small numbers now and then from the 1930s through the early 1960s, and most are confined to lower grades (MS-60, MS-61 and MS-62) by today's standards. Choice examples are rare, and Gems are seldom available in the market.
