Description
GEM SATIN WHITE SURFACES. VIRTUALLY MARKFREE. ONE OF THE GREAT RARITIES IN FOR THE MORGAN DOLLAR SET IN LOFTY GRADES. The 1897-O is a very challenging issue to pursue as far as the quality-conscious numismatist is concerned, this despite a respectable mintage of 4 million pieces. Unlike many other issues in the Morgan Dollar series, the '97-O seems to have seen considerable domestic circulation. Worn survivors, therefore, are fairly easy to obtain in today's market. On the other hand, Mint State coins are scarce in an absolute sense and seldom encountered with strong eye appeal. The typically offered Uncirculated 1897-O Silver Dollar is poorly struck, lackluster and/or extensively abraded. Near-Gems are understandably scarce, with Gems rare and Superb Gems exceedingly so.
