Description
GEM SATIN LUSTROUS SURFACES. VERY SCARCE IN THIS LOFTY GRADE. JUST A HANDFUL OF COINS GRADED HIGHER. The 1924-S is definitely one of the scarcer issues in the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle series, and many of the 2.9 million pieces originally struck were undoubtedly destroyed during the gold call in of the 1930s. Most examples grade MS-60 to MS-64, with MS-65s rare and coins that grade any finer virtually unobtainable. In an absolute sense, the 1924-S is rarer than such other S-mint issues in this series as the 1922-S and 1926-S.
