Description
13 STAR REVERSE. VERY STRONG, EVEN STRIKE. ONLY TWO AU55 COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. According to federal records, a mere 8,265 pieces constitutes the total number of Dimes delivered in 1804. While it was customary in the early Mint to use dies until they broke irreparably, even if that meant carrying them over into subsequent years, this figure probably represents most of the 1804-dated Dimes produced. There are two die marriages known, both of which are rare, although the 13-Star Reverse appears to be just a bit less so. Neither variety is represented by a single Mint State example at PCGS and NGC.
