Description
GEM ORANGE PEEL SURFACES. EXTREMELY RARE IN THIS STATE OF PRESERVATION. ONLY TWO COINS GRADED HIGHER AT PCGS. Although the Denver Mint struck a sizeable total of 2.9 million Double Eagles in 1925, this issue is one of the more elusive in the Saint-Gaudens series. We believe that most examples remained in federal vaults until melted in the 1930s on executive authority. Most Mint State survivors grade no finer than MS-63, and the 1925-D is scarce in MS-64 and rare any finer.
