Description
GEM SATIN LUSTROUS SURFACES. VERY SCARCE IN THIS ESTEEMED GRADE. JUST TWO COINS GRADED HUGHER AT PCGS. The final Quarter Eagle of the Capped Bust Right type, the 1807 is also the most frequently encountered in today's market. Perhaps understandably, it is a perennially popular coin among gold type collectors. As with all early gold issues, however, the 1807 Two-and-a-Half is still an elusive coin when viewed in the wider context of numismatics. We believe that just 250-350 examples have survived from an original mintage of 6,812 pieces - a total that would confirm the 1807 Quarter Eagle as a major rarity in most other U.S. coin series.
