Description

Choice Gem Proof with full Red designation and CAC approval, this 1936 Lincoln cent offers the vivid brilliance and premium eye appeal that define the finest early Brilliant Proofs of the Wheat Cent series. Struck at Philadelphia, this 1936 1 Cent is a Type 1 Wheat Reverse issue, featuring Victor D. Brenner’s enduring right-facing portrait of Abraham Lincoln on the obverse. The surrounding legends read IN GOD WE TRUST above, LIBERTY at left, and the date 1936 at right. The reverse displays the familiar Wheat Ears design, with E PLURIBUS UNUM above, ONE CENT boldly centered, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA below, framed by the paired wheat stalks. As a Brilliant Proof, the coin was specially struck for collectors with carefully prepared dies and planchets, resulting in sharper detail and reflective surfaces distinct from circulation strikes. PCGS has certified the coin PR65RD, placing it solidly in the Gem tier, while CAC approval further confirms its quality within the grade. The surfaces exhibit the bright orange-gold to fiery red color expected of a fully Red example, with attractive reflectivity and strong visual freshness. Design elements appear crisply rendered, and the fields show the mirrored character associated with the proof format. Overall eye appeal is especially pleasing, combining rich original color, balanced brilliance, and the refined presentation sought by collectors of premium Lincoln proofs. The 1936 proof cent holds a special place in the Lincoln series. It marks the first year of regular-issue proof coinage after the Mint resumed proof production in 1936, ending a hiatus that had lasted since 1916. As such, it is a foundational issue in the modern proof Lincoln cent series and enjoys broad demand from both Wheat Cent specialists and collectors assembling complete proof type or date runs. Its historical significance as the reopening chapter of 20th-century U.S. proof coinage adds considerably to its appeal. With a proof mintage of 5,569 pieces, the issue is scarce in absolute terms relative to business strikes and remains a perennial favorite among advanced Lincoln cent collectors. PCGS reports a population of 246 examples in PR65RD, with 109 finer, underscoring both its collectible availability and the steady demand for attractive Gem Red survivors. CAC-approved pieces are notably more selective and command heightened attention in the marketplace, particularly for a first-year proof issue of this importance. A handsome and historically important 1936 Lincoln cent, this CAC-approved PCGS PR65RD is an ideal acquisition for the collector seeking a high-quality early proof with strong color, solid certification, and enduring series prestige.
