A conditionally scarce Denver key issue in exceptional Superb Gem preservation, this 1938-D Walking Liberty half dollar combines one of the series’ lowest mintages with brilliant, frosty eye appeal. The obverse depicts Liberty striding confidently toward the rising sun, draped in the American flag and carrying branches of laurel and oak, with LIBERTY around the border, IN GOD WE TRUST at right, and the date 1938 below. The reverse features the commanding heraldic eagle perched on a mountain crag beside a mountain pine sapling, with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and HALF DOLLAR around, and E PLURIBUS UNUM at left.
