This 1940 Proof Walking Liberty Half Dollar is an exceptional Superb Gem survivor from a mintage of 11,279 pieces, with only a small number retaining this level of originality and visual refinement. Rich peripheral color frames the designs on each side, with the obverse showing a sweeping arc of magenta, violet, cobalt blue, emerald green, amber-gold, and burnt orange. With only nine examples certified finer at PCGS and even fewer at CAC, this coin stands firmly among the finest available examples of the 1940 Proof issue and represents a truly premium offering for advanced collectors. Relevant auction for a coin with such color are few but would be slightly inferior offerings at $6,600 03/23 SB and $6,600 06/21 HA , whilst NGC PR68+ CAC also sell for $6,500-$6,700.
