Description
A desirable Carson City issue from the early years of the Nevada mint. This 1878-CC displays pleasing original gold color with light circulation evident on the high points, while much of the design detail remains bold and well defined. The surfaces retain attractive luster in protected areas, adding to the coin’s overall eye appeal. Of 3,244 pieces minted, only a scant 60-75 pieces are believed to still survive. This is among the rarest of all gold eagles!
